Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have faced increased strikes in recent weeks

Overnight, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in power cuts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were wounded while residents in the city's east were experienced blackouts and encountered disruption to drinking water, according to city officials.

Simultaneously, a seven-year-old child was lost their life in a separate Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the country's south-east, according to regional authorities.

Russian forces has escalated assaults on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has called for "concrete actions" from international partners to increase pressure on Moscow.

He said that 450 drones and several dozen rockets targeted the country's power systems, labeling such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "critical infrastructure" as winter approaches.

Government representatives said Moscow was "conducting extensive attacks" and maintenance teams were working to restore power.

A wave of strikes hit power facilities and residential structures in the capital.

Multiple people hurt in the strikes on the capital have been hospitalized, as confirmed by local officials.
